The short version of 胃饥饿素受体 fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
Reviewed 2026-01-11. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
The compound was developed at Novo Nordisk during the 1990s as part of a programme seeking secretagogues with improved selectivity. It was described in the peer-reviewed literature in 1998 alongside related pentapeptides from the same series. Investigators advanced it because it raised growth hormone output in animal models while leaving other pituitary hormones comparatively unaffected. The development code NNC 26-0161 appears in earlier reports, and ipamorelin later became the common designation in published work.
Selectivity is the property most often attached to this peptide. Published animal and early human studies record increases in growth hormone release after administration, with adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol responses remaining small by comparison. Effects on appetite-related pathways also appear weaker than those reported for several earlier secretagogues. Reviews that compare members of the growth hormone secretagogue family cite these findings frequently, though the receptor-level explanation for the selectivity continues to be debated rather than settled.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide classified as a growth hormone secretagogue. Its sequence, Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, combines three non-proteinogenic residues with a C-terminal amide. The N-terminal aminoisobutyric acid unit and the two aromatic D-amino acids distinguish it from peptides assembled only from standard L-amino acids. Its formula is C38H49N9O5, corresponding to an average mass near 711.9 Da. At neutral pH the molecule carries a net positive charge, a property that shapes its behaviour in chromatographic and electrophoretic systems.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class of compounds. Researchers at a pharmaceutical company first described it in the 1990s while screening small peptides for growth hormone releasing activity. Its chain contains five amino acid residues, two of which are non-natural building blocks, including 2-aminoisobutyric acid and a naphthylalanine derivative. The molecule was designed to act at the ghrelin receptor while avoiding several effects observed with earlier secretagogues.
At the cellular level, ipamorelin binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor. Activation of this receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers a signaling cascade that leads to release of growth hormone into circulation. Because release follows a pulsatile pattern, studies often report peak concentration and total area under the curve rather than a single time point. Selectivity for this receptor is the property most frequently discussed in comparative work.
Compared with older secretagogues such as hexarelin or GHRP-6, ipamorelin shows weaker stimulation of cortisol, prolactin, and appetite in the animal models used for early characterization. Whether that selectivity is preserved across longer human exposures remains an open question, because published clinical data are limited in size and duration. Reported effects on food intake are generally described as modest. The compound is therefore treated in the literature as a relatively selective research tool rather than a fully characterized therapeutic agent.

At the molecular level, ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor or GHS-R1a. Binding to this receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers a signaling cascade that leads to growth hormone release. The effect is mediated through phospholipase C and calcium mobilization rather than through the cyclic AMP pathway used by growth hormone releasing hormone. The two pathways are complementary, and combined stimulation produces a larger response than either alone.
Compared with other secretagogues such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6, and hexarelin, ipamorelin is described as more selective. Published animal work reports little or no increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, or prolactin at doses that release growth hormone. This selectivity is the property most often cited in the research literature. Whether the same profile holds across species and dosing schedules remains an open question, since human data are limited and come largely from small studies.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.
Purity is normally reported as a percentage of total peak area, a figure that does not account for water content, residual solvents, or counterions. Trifluoroacetate and acetate are the most frequent counterions in lyophilized peptides, and they shift the true peptide content away from the mass of the powder. A separate quantitative assay is therefore needed to state content accurately. Certificates of analysis often omit these details, which makes batch-to-batch comparison difficult and limits conclusions drawn when results from different suppliers are compared.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from moisture and light. Repeated excursions to room temperature cause condensation inside the vial and gradual moisture uptake, both of which shorten shelf life. Containers should be allowed to equilibrate before opening so that water does not condense on the solid. Dividing a batch into single-use aliquots reduces freeze-thaw cycling. Solid peptide handled this way is usually considered stable for months to years, while the same material in solution degrades on a much shorter timescale.
Common solvents for laboratory work include water, buffered saline, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Once dissolved, the peptide is exposed to hydrolysis and oxidation, and alkaline conditions accelerate breakdown. Low-binding plasticware and the addition of a carrier protein reduce losses to container surfaces, which can otherwise be substantial at low concentrations. Solutions are typically kept cold and used within days. Investigators working with the compound generally prepare fresh working dilutions rather than storing dilute stocks, and they avoid repeated warming of the same vial.

== Description == An annual to perennial plant with creeping or erect branched stems to about 40 cm in height. The stems are square in cross-section and can vary from hairless on some plants to densely hairy on others, with a green to sometimes red or purplish colour. The leaves, which grow in opposite pairs, are narrowly oval, 2–3 cm long x 1 cm wide, downy, sparsely toothed towards the tip, and taper into a short stalk. All parts of the plant are strongly scented when crushed but it does not have noticeable glands on its surface. The small (6 mm) flowers are densely packed in whorls at the nodes, widely separated, above pairs of leaf-like bracts. The calyx is a ribbed tube about 3 mm long, with five triangular teeth, the lower two being narrower and slightly longer than the upper three; it is hairy both on the inside and the outside. The corolla has four mauve lobes or "petals" and is hairy only on the outside. The flowers are bisexual and have four long stamens, two (or all four) of which project well beyond the corolla lobes. There is one long style which is forked to produce two stigmas, which also project from the flower. The fruits consist of a cluster of four brown, 1-seeded nutlets, each about 0.7 mm long.
== Compliance and deviation == In international law, it is said that "treaty interpretation is an art, not a science" Expanding that view, Philip Allott states that "interpretation in International Law is an art and a game and a field of battle." While the drug conventions define clear limitations, and the VCLT serves as a critical interpretive tool, there is "a degree of latitude for policy choices at the national and subnational level" that has allowed for ample interpretive divergence. One study examining interpretive latitude in the conventions proposed three categories of deviation by member countries: permissible policies deviate while being generally accepted, contested policies are vigorously defended as in fact being within the guidelines, and impermissible policies are clear breaches of the conventions. In recent decades, a growing number of countries, and a majority of states in the US, have moved towards drug liberalization by variously decriminalizing cannabis and other drugs for personal consumption, and by legalizing cannabis for recreational use. This has resulted in a variety of interpretations of, and tension with, the drug treaties.

=== Depression === A comparative meta-analysis of 21 major antidepressants found that venlafaxine, agomelatine, amitriptyline, escitalopram, mirtazapine, paroxetine, and vortioxetine were more effective than other antidepressants, although the quality of many comparisons was assessed as low or very low. Open-label evidence also suggests potential benefit in treatment-resistant cases: in a multicenter Canadian study of adults with inadequate response to prior antidepressants (n=159), 58% achieved response and 28% remission after 8 weeks of venlafaxine (mean 260 mg/day); tolerability was generally acceptable. Venlafaxine was similar in efficacy to the atypical antidepressant bupropion; however, the remission rate was lower for venlafaxine. In a double-blind study, patients who did not respond to an SSRI were switched to either venlafaxine or another SSRI (citalopram); similar improvement was observed in both groups. Studies have not established its efficacy for use in pediatric populations. In children and adolescents with depression, venlafaxine increases the risk of suicidal thoughts or attempts. Higher doses (e.g., 225 mg and 375 mg per day) of venlafaxine are more effective than lower doses (e.g., 75 mg per day) but also cause more side effects. Studies have shown that the extended-release is superior to the immediate-release form of venlafaxine. A 2017 meta-analysis has shown that the efficacy of venlafaxine is not correlated with baseline severity of depression.

== Disorders == Disorders of fatty acid metabolism can be described in terms of, for example, hypertriglyceridemia (too high level of triglycerides), or other types of hyperlipidemia. These may be familial or acquired. Familial types of disorders of fatty acid metabolism are generally classified as inborn errors of lipid metabolism. These disorders may be described as fatty acid oxidation disorders or as a lipid storage disorders, and are any one of several inborn errors of metabolism that result from enzyme or transport protein defects affecting the ability of the body to oxidize fatty acids in order to produce energy within muscles, liver, and other cell types. When a fatty acid oxidation disorder affects the muscles, it is a metabolic myopathy. Moreover, cancer cells can display irregular fatty acid metabolism with regard to both fatty acid synthesis and mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation (FAO) that are involved in diverse aspects of tumorigenesis and cell growth.
On an unknown date in 1980, the aircraft registered SSSR-86004 (constructor's number 51483200002 ["002"]) experienced a fire in engine No 4 on departure from Vnukovo on an acceptance testing flight; the crew initially shut down No. 1 in error, then No. 4, but landed safely on the reciprocal runway to the one from which they had departed, after performing a 180° turn. No casualties. The investigation into this fire resulted in a modification to the engine. In 1984, SSSR-86011 (c/n 009) was found to have suffered a tail strike on landing at Simferopol. No casualties. On March 8, 1994, RA-86119 (c/n 087) parked at Delhi airport was struck by debris of crashing Sahara India Boeing 737 (VT-SIA) flown by a trainee; both aircraft were destroyed. All 4 crew on the 737 were killed. Two Aeroflot employees and Russian ground engineer died inside the Il-86 due to a fire and an airport worker was killed on the ground. In 1998, RA-86080 (c/n 051) was found to have been overstressed, most likely by a recent heavy landing, and repairs were considered inexpedient in view of coming retirement. No casualties; aircraft broken up at Sheremetyevo Airport in 2001. On May 1, 2000, RA-86113 (c/n 081) suffered an apparent engine failure and fire on departure from Sochi. The flight crew brought the machine to a safe overweight landing. The failure and fire indications were found to have been spurious. No casualties. On August 26, 2000, RA-86066 (c/n 033) experienced a failure and fire in No 2 engine shortly after take-off from Moscow Sheremetyevo for Barcelona.

==== Warning signs ignored ==== From 2005 to 2006, an agent, Jiang Weisuo, from Shaanxi Jinqiao Dairy Company in northern China reportedly publicly discussed his fears about unauthorised substances being added to competitors' milk. His complaints to regulators and dairy makers in 2005 and 2006 never yielded any result; his story was picked up by China Central Television, who ran a report, complete with footage of adulteration in progress, yet the Shaanxi Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said they failed to find evidence of wrongdoing. The bulletin board of the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) indicated a rare occurrence of kidney stones in children–all causally traced to Sanlu milk formula–was flagged by at least one member of the public in June 2008 and by a urologist in a paediatric hospital on 24 July 2008. Neither received definitive replies. The paediatrician, who specifically asked the AQSIQ to refer his observations to epidemiologists, was asked to refer his query to the health department. In June, Jiangsu media reported a two-month surge in the number of babies diagnosed with kidney disease; in July, a parent of a sick baby in Hunan questioned Sanlu's powdered milk and complained to the AQSIQ. Gansu Province sent a report to the Ministry of Health on 16 July to alert that one local hospital had identified an increase in the incidence of kidney ailments among babies in the months earlier, and that most victims had consumed Sanlu's baby formula. The health ministry sent investigators to Gansu in early August.
Progestogens are the precursors of all other human steroids, and all human tissues which produce steroids must first convert cholesterol to pregnenolone. This conversion is the rate-limiting step of steroid synthesis, which occurs inside the mitochondrion of the respective tissue. The conversion is catalyzed by the mitochondrial P450scc system. Cortisol, corticosterone, aldosterone are produced in the adrenal cortex. Estradiol, estrone and progesterone are made primarily in the ovary, estriol in placenta during pregnancy, and testosterone primarily in the testes (some testosterone may also be produced in the adrenal cortex). Estradiol is converted from testosterone directly (in males), or via the primary pathway DHEA – androstenedione – estrone and secondarily via testosterone (in females). Stromal cells have been shown to produce steroids in response to signaling produced by androgen-starved prostate cancer cells. Some neurons and glia in the central nervous system (CNS) express the enzymes required for the local synthesis of pregnenolone, progesterone, DHEA and DHEAS, de novo or from peripheral sources.
In many ways, early Knoxville was a typical rowdy late-18th century frontier village. A detached group of Cherokee, known as the Chickamaugas, refused to recognize the Holston treaty, and remained a constant threat. In September 1793, a large force of Chickamaugas and Creeks marched on Knoxville, and massacred the inhabitants of Cavet's Station (near modern Bearden) before dispersing. Outlaws roamed the city's periphery, among them the Harpe Brothers, who murdered at least one settler in 1797 before fleeing to Kentucky. Abishai Thomas, an associate of Blount who visited Knoxville in 1794, noted that the city was full of taverns and tippling houses, no churches, and that the blockhouse's jail was overcrowded with criminals. In 1795, James White set aside more land for the growing city, allowing it to expand northward to modern Clinch Avenue and westward to modern Henley Street. A census that year showed that Tennessee had a large enough population to apply for statehood. In January 1796, delegates from across Tennessee, including Blount, Sevier, and Andrew Jackson, convened in Knoxville to draw up a constitution for the new state, which was admitted to the Union on June 1, 1796. Knoxville was chosen as the initial capital of the state.

It is a synthetic five-amino-acid peptide that acts as a growth hormone secretagogue. Three of its residues are non-standard amino acids, and the chain ends in an amide rather than a free acid. The molecule is small enough that it can be characterised by routine peptide analytical techniques.
It has not received marketing approval as a medicine in the United States or the European Union. Supplied material is generally described and handled as a research chemical. Regulatory treatment varies by jurisdiction, and some countries restrict growth hormone secretagogues under sports or medicines legislation.
Earlier secretagogues were associated with broader hormonal responses, including measurable changes in cortisol and prolactin. Reports on this peptide describe a narrower profile in which growth hormone release is the most prominent effect. The observation is influential because it shapes how the compound is compared with other members of the same receptor family.
It is a synthetic pentapeptide in the growth hormone secretagogue family. The chain contains five residues, two of which are non-natural amino acids.
